I think that I have gradually gotten better over time. I had an initial onset of this illness 2.5 years ago. It happened suddenly with few intense fits of vertigo so bad that even with my eyes closed, the world kept spinning. After that, my vision was not the same again. I also had neck and spinal cord pain and loss of some hearing in one of my ears. I had tinnitus too.
Today, I no longer have double vision, after-images, and picasso like vision!!!!! No more brain fog!!!!
I still have some visual snow and tinnitus, but it is not nearly as bad as it used to be.
The progression of getting better has been very slow, but here are things I think have helped:
Large doses of CoQ10 (also known to reduce frequency of migraines). I get the Vitaline (otherwise known as Integrative therapeutics) brand (expensive) but this form of CoQ10 can pass the blood brain barrier and is used as a deterrant to some neurological illnesses such as MS, Parkinsons, and Alzheimers. This brand is used by the National Institutes of Health for research. It can be obtained the least costly on the Internet. Email me if you are having problems finding the cheapest price...I pay 143 for 90 400 mg pills. I take 400 mg per day. 300 mg per day was suggested as a deterrant for migraines. Be patient with this. It takes 3 months of continuous use to work.
Accupuncture and Accupressure. Initially, I was worse with these treatments, but gradually over time, I actually had days of clear vision. I had the needles in the back of my neck and the accupressure between the base of my skull and my neck.
B complex vitamins
Exercises to strengthen my neck
I am going to try
Magnesium and Ribovflavin ( which also reduce the incidence of migraines)
If the CoQ10 ends up helping, maybe we could all get together and try to get a reduced bulk pricing on the CoQ10. I don't know if that is possible, but we could look into it if there was interest. Also, some health savings accounts might cover the cost of this if you can get your doc to write a prescription.
