Lately ive been fascinated with HDR (high dynamic range) photography... Hdr combines exposures to get the most depth out of an image - kind of like our eyes
do.
but... there are some similarities between bad HDR images and VS.
Some obvious characteristics of really bad HDR are...
The dreaded halo effect - a sort of bright glow around either really bright objects, or dark objects against something light... caused by having the contrast levels off, or the luminosity too low... just like with VS (ive seen both with my vs)
Ghosting - when the exposures aren't lined up right, they will ghost. afterimages anyone?
Noise - unless you have your ISO speed set to well below 0, HDR will have noise in it... it is usually filtered out, but people who have no idea what they are doing will leave tons of noise in it... a bit like static, really... or sometimes there's odd white ones that look kinda like entoptic phenomena.
Odd colored blotches - When messing with the wrong settings, you can actually exaggerate certain points of light that would be unnoticable so much that they become way too obvious.
so... what are your thoughts on this? what if there's a similarity between hdr and how the brain processes things? this could actually be important...
well, im new to HDR, and i admit, my work has a few mistakes, but here's what it looks like for those who have never seen it. if i have time, within the next few days ill make a really really bad HDR so you can see what im talking about, but here's my "good" ones, that aren't that great
obvious halo around the handle, a bit of static in the tiles...
this one's actually decent
Very slight ghosting on the stem... but... not much
