Has anyone here taken Pregabalin? It looks like a wonder drug for neuropathic pain, but it also looks a bit scary when you look at side effects. I'm going to try the samples before filling the prescription.

I've been having a lot of neuropathic pain lately inculding migraines and possible seizures. The neuro prescribed Pregabalin, I've been taking a
'lot' of ibuprofin and naproxin over the past few months for brain pain and he's worried about blood pressure, stomache problems etc...

Day 1: Took 1x75mg pill at 11am. Felt dizzy and sleepy but less pain in my head and other places. Slept for 3 hours.
Took 1x75mg pill at bedtime. Couldn't sleep at first, but when I did sleep I slept great. Woke up refreshed for a change. Day 2: I've taken 1x75mg and am a bit dizzy but overall feeling some effect. I'm not sure how fast this stuff 'should' work, this could all be placebo effect, overall pain is reduced, feel pretty good, though the side effects are real... Probably placebo or simple psychology, but my mood is great. Maybe it helps out the citalopram, who knows? Maybe just not being in constant pain has helped... Oh, and I'm completely off of beer now. I'm taking three medications that say don't drink (4 if you include my back pills) so I've decided to become a teetotaler. By a coincidence, Pregabalin reduces cravings for things like alcohol, so that's a help, not that I'm a heavy drinker or anything, just the odd beer once and a while. I'll keep posting for those with an interest in Pregabalin. |

Out of curiosity, which, neurontin or lyrica or normal brand prega?
I take it for my peripheal neuropathy (lower back trauma, upper left shoulder trauma, permanent nerve damage) and it takes my pain levels (sensitivity to touch, a weird 'buzzing' sensation all over, burning (full body) and weird pins and needles sensations) from a good 7-8 down to 2-3, some days i dont notice the pain at all. Neurontin had way too many side effects for me, it made my VS worse too (mainly because it triggered bad migraines for me) I am on lyrica now and i am quite happy. For the first few weeks you wont really feel that *good*, the dizziness is quite common side effect. P.S Are you still taking keppra? i was told not to take these within close time frames of each other as they will counter each other... |

I'm on Lyrica from Pfizer. Dizziness is there, but compared to the vertigo that I have sometimes it is no problem.
That's odd about Keppra, neither the neuro nor pharmacist mentioned anything about it countering it - I'm still on 2000mg / day. Day 3 - still a little dizzy. Dry mouth. Still feeling better than before I started - less pain, pins/needles etc... |

Moderate Drug-Drug Interaction
levetiracetam and pregabalin (Moderate Drug-Drug) MONITOR: Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities. ----- This is probably why the neuro gave me a 'slower' ramp up program, but I, like an idiot, ignored him and went with the standard ramp up and started with 1 and 1 instead of 0 and 1. I am tired but I'm always tired. I'll make sure to taper down if I start feeling rough. Thanks for the heads up.

1x75 am
2x75 pm Side effects - Just an energy boost on first night - like last time and a bit of dry mouth. I feel very well, head-aches are down quite a bit but vision is still buggered - I tried reading and the attack of the blind spot blobs came along as usual. Though I did quit drinking, I fell off the wagon right into my birthday party. My body let me know that I had better take it slow though and it was fine. I'm back on the wagon again. Yabba dabba doo. jr |
