Anxiety Attack |

I have had VS for as long as I can remember. It never really bothered me until after I had my son 5 years ago. Three months after he was born I had a migraine
with aura and saw the zig zag lines etc. Then I started freaking out about my VS snow. Finally I got on a anxiety medication and I was fine. Then last year I
was pregnant and at 12 weeks I got another migraine with aura and another at 30 weeks. My baby is 5 months now and about a month ago I had another migraine
with aura and since then my VS has been bothering me again. It seems to be a lot worse when I pay attention to it. I also have floaters and I will see spots
like from a camera flash but without seeing one. It just appears and goes away in about a minute. Anyone else experience this? What do you do to control your
anxiety???
Thanks |

mparker0312 wrote:Yes, yes, yes. I definitely experience that. It happens almost daily. I try not to pay attention to it, that's pretty much my only defense. Until I see a "camera flash" that lasts all day, I'm just going to ignore it. Remember, you may have VS, but VS doesn't have you .

Great quote, Courtney. I'm in the process of writing a research paper on persistent migraine aura, and would love to use that quote of yours. Of course
credit will be given where credit is due. PM me for more info

Hi MParker, I wanted to let you know I have had a similar experience. When I was in my 35th week of pregnancy, I had 3 migraines w/aura...not really a
headache, but loss of vision, zig zag flashing lights, tunnel vision..scary stuff. Lasted about 20-40 min each time. Then, 8 months after giving birth, it
happend again once. I was so scared and have had every test done, MRI, CAT scan, blood work...one thing did happen after that, I developed a cotton wool spot
in my eye (still trying to be diagnosed for this...) As for the whole camera flash spot thing...I get those ALL DAY EVERYDAY! I thought I was going crazy,
but it is so nice to know that other people have it as well, sorry though, it kinda sucks. The dr.'s say dont worry about it if it disappears right away.
I wish I knew what was causing it though. I believe that I have had them all my life, but now I'm obsessed with my eyes since all the weird stuff starting
happening, so I pay attention to EVERYTHING, constantly looking for new problems...its a terrible habit, causes major anxiety. Thankfully my husband is a very
patient man...I was on Xanax for 7 months for the anxiety, but got off 2 mo. ago, I just didn't want to depend on drugs to help it. I just do deep
breathing and look to my husband for support when its really bad. I hope it helps to hear that others have the same thing

HI strutr1911
Did all your probs start when you were pregnant or before hand? Just curious as mine started when i was pregnant with my first son 3 yrs ago. Before that i had never had any vision problems or occular migraines ever in my life. The only thing i did have was chronic anxiety which started when i was 20, died down when i trained myself to relax and then flair up with the birth of my son and the continuation of all my visual problems. |

melaniemil wrote:Hi, all my problems started during my pregnancy. We really started investigating this stuff 8 months postpartum when I got another occular migraine...MRI, CAT scan, blood (tested positive for lupus anticoagulant at that time, but negative since), then developed a "cotton wool spot" in my eye, which they say is a blood clot type of thing (usually found in those with autoimmune diseases or diabetes, which I have neither), then got another one 5 months later. I have been in 2 major medical centers trying to figure out what is wrong with me, and NO ONE can figure it out. Since then, I have become obsessed with any weird things in my eyes...I see black lines in my pref. vision when I turn my head, get little lights in my eyes that go on an off all day, dim grey spots that fade, major floaters...all causes major anxiety. Then they just did a 60-4 visual field on me cause my retina dr. said there is this thing called autoimmune retinopathy (autoimmune disease where your body makes antibodies against your eyes...scary!) so the first thing to be affected is your pref. vision. My dr. is out of town, but supposively another 'attending' dr. looked at my test and said it was normal (though it had grey and black edges which scared me...the tech printed the test for me). I dropped the test at my regular opth. and he is supposed to call me today after reviewing it...so I'm still nervous. Anyway, I heard that pregnancy can suck the life out of you and mess up your immune system, but my daughter is SO worth it. I just want to have a regular day without looking for eye problems!

Wow im really sorry to hear you are going through all this anxiety with your vision. It is good news so far for you that your test for retinopathy has been
read as negative thats a great sign. Its interesting about the cotton wool type spot in your eye, i had never heard of anything like that until now, I have an
autoimmune disease, hypothyroidism but fortunately i haven't experienced anything like what you're describing, however all the rest of the things you
mentioned i pretty much experience. I don't have black lines in my peripheral just the white ring type things i see when i move my eyes from side to side.
I will be going to see an eye specialist soon just to check that it is'nt something to do with my eyes but im sure theyll say once again it is'nt and
i'll have no clue what they are or mean. Just curious to know if you have other neurological symptoms? I had just before i got pregnant with my son,
tingling feet on and off which while i was pregnant turned into a permanent thing everymorning when i woke up. To this day i still wake up with tingling feet
and i have lost partial feeling in both my big toes. I also feel my left leg has a different sensation to my right like very slight numbness which i only
notice while scrubbing in the shower. I also have twitching all over my body on occasions which can be worse when very stressed. Sometimes i also get vertigo
type feelings as well and i also get shaky vision! I would love to know what is causing these problems for me also.

I have found other ways to combat anxiety besides meds. Breathing techniques work really great for me.
