Having Trouble Working...Anyone Have Any Advise How To Make It Through the Day? |
Lead | ||
|
Hi all! I'm suffering with a myriad of symptoms that are all listed in the "symptoms we all have" thread. The biggies that really affect my
working are dizziness, confusion, exhaustion & memory problems. Is there anyone out there that has found ways to work around "bad days" and just
keep going? As it is, I don't drive because of the dizziness, but I really have trouble focusing on my work and keeping things straight in my head. It is
wonderful that I am able to work at home on my "bad days", but they are becoming WAY too frequent and I'm not as reliable to my boss &
co-worker as I would like to be. Any suggestions???

I take the bus and have managed to get people to drive me everywhere. Then I learned to fake my way through the dizziness, thanks to the physical therapy I was
able to get. So, once I'm in a stable location I can get something done.
For the memory, concentration stuff, I keep notes on everything and never trust that I will remember anything. I have little notebooks everywhere, although lately I've consolidated into one with pages I can rearrange. It is with me everywhere. The other thing I do is try and organize my tasks based on what kind of brain power they need. If I'm having a few hours of clarity, I totally take on the things that require real thought. I can save the more brainless tasks for when I have less brainpower. The dizziness works the same way... if I'm not dizzy then I can do walking around things, otherwise I sit at my desk or at home and work without moving much. |

As SopuliSusie suggested, I would try making notes - though appreciate confusion may hinder this. Though I'm on benefits now because of frequent migraine
pain, I have an undiagnosed memory problem too. I found notes the best way to get through the day (as long as you don't lose the notepad!). I work on IT
help desks by trade, so if that gets me through the day it should help as long as you can find things in the notes!!!

Unfortunately, I can relate. I have the same issues at work and have been dealing with them the best I can all this time but yesterday was one of those bad bad
days for me where I just could not "fake it"! I may have faked it with them or at least I hope I did, but I no longer can fake it with myself!
Yesterday just scared me. I even found myself sobbing when I got home which I don't do often!
I was given a somewhat easy assignment yesterday afternoon (the worst time of the day for me) and although easy there were many steps involved in the assignment. Of course it had to be done before I left for the afternoon so I was stressing . I found myself going over my notes to make sure I left nothing out. Well I did leave a few things out because I always think I am going to remember everything especially if they are simple things to remember. Drinking water, stepping away from the assignment for a few moments, taking a deep breath, focusing, and praying did not seem to do the trick yesterday! I think from now on no matter what (even on the simplest tasks when no one else is taking notes and stare at you like your an idiot for taking notes!) I am going to do what SoupuliSusie does and take notes on everything! This is great advice. It would be a dream for me and I think for all that suffer to be able to have support from work and have them know this is a legitamate issue and we are going to have bad days! After yesterday, I am seriously thinking about redirecting my future career path and my health is now the main focus not anything else! Thank you for the post! Handling PMA at work has been my most difficult battle and I just needed to hear that from someone else! Take care! |

Thank you for all the advise and support. It definately helps to know I'm not going through this alone. I've got an amazing hubby that tries to help
all he can, but it really helps know that other REALLY know what it is like. I wish you all the best...and
Lovely, a word of advise from my own experiences...don't focus on your health too much because you will find it can consume you. Though...logging things for a specific amount of time - like all the food you eat and your daily symptoms for a solid month DOES help connect some of the dots...especially if you experiencing any type of migraine caused by food (even the painless kind). Just make sure you only do it for a month and don't get too wrapped up in all that is going on...it is easy to get depressed about the fruitlessness of it. Prayer has been the most healing...and finding other that would pray with me. Best of hope to you that something is discovered! |

Thanks heavnlyharmony for the advice. Ever since that one day I have been doing much better. I had just started a new job so I was a bit stressed to say the
least. I tend to be very positive or at least try when it comes to everything but there are those days where I do feel defeated and I just can't fake it!
I have yet to try logging what I eat but is something I have been thinking about doing. Thanks again and take care!
I agree with you, praying is very healing and is something I do daily. |

I can relate to this!
I'm on my own this week as my parents have gone away for a week, my sister lives with her boyfriend and my brother is always at his girlfriend's house. It's been horrible. I don't feel like doing anything and almost feel claustraphobic at times with this damn visual problem. I feel really impaired at times. So bloody annoying huh. |
