Registered User Posts: 383 10/09/07 2:58 PM	Remove this ad I was just looking in the mirror, and I kept my eyes glued on the mirror while I turned my head to the right and I saw a pressure phosphene slowly form on the right side of the mirror. I call it a pressure phosphene because I'm not sure what else it would be called. The farther I turned my head, the wider it got, as though something were pressing farther into my eye. Registered User Posts: 5010 10/09/07 4:34 PM	Pressure-phosphene is not theright term, these are light sensations induced by pressure on the eyeballs (usually with closed eye lids). But there is no pressure to the eyes involved in the situation you described. So you are looking at the mirror, which point are you fixating? Then you turn your head to the right, but the gaze is still fixing the mirror, right (a particular point)? What do you see then as phenomenon? Maybe you can make a pciture so that one can identify the phenomenon? Sounds interesting, but I don't have yet an idea what it is? Picture?

Posts: 186 10/09/07 4:36 PM Cool Dude	I know what your talking about. It only works on a fixed gaze at something like a blank wall then turning your head sharply. It looks like a massive round floater materialising in the corner of your eye.

Regular Visitor Posts: 229 10/09/07 5:40 PM	I just recently started getting something that sounds similar, but I don't have to fixate at a point and turn my head to make it happen. Instead, several times a day I see this "big dark floater" thingy slide in and out of the corner of my left eye very quickly. the "big dark floater" looks just like the shape I see when I close my eyes and press on my eyeballs. Round and dark in the middle with sort of a bright ring around the outside. What is this and why am I now seeing it in the corner of my eye randomly throughout the day? It worries me--what if it slides into my vision one day and never leaves? What causes this, KSomething? What am I seeing? How can I see a light sensation induced by pressure without pressure?? I HATE NEW SYMPTOMS

Regular Visitor Posts: 229 10/09/07 6:01 PM	I saw a retinal specialist about 6 months ago when all this started...I see ophthalmologists regularly for my chronic dry eye..I guess I could mention it to them. I just feel it's more likely tied up with all the other VS stuff. Here's my attempt at an illustration. The "spot" swims in and out of my vision very quickly, and it kind of has a glowing quality. And for Doctor K, my camera is dead at the moment, so let me describe for you to imagine. You're in your bathroom, and your medicine cabinet above the sink has a mirror on the front. You're looking at your face in the mirror, while turning your head to the right as though you're about to walk away, but you're still staring at your face. And the more you turn, the more an "impression" similar to say... a water dimple, slowly grows in the area of your vision to the right of the mirror, over the white wall the cabinet is on. You don't have to turn your eyes to see it, you're still staring directly at the reflection with them. And then you turn your head back to the same direction your eyes are pointed, and it slowly recedes into nothing, returning to the depths of Hell from which it was spawned. Registered User Posts: 871 10/10/07 2:00 AM	Hey guys- I think this is observations of the natural blind spot. It's another entopic phenom. that we normally should not be able to see. I think that's what this is. It usually occurs slightly off center for central vision sort of where the optic nerve head would be. As you turn your head it becomes harder for the brain to reconcile the two images coming from the eye as the skew becomes greater and the blind spot can't be disguised from you as easily.

Next time you have it please check what happens if you close the left eye, dfo you see it then also in the visual field of the open right eye? If not, then it's a monocular scotoma of the left eye. Since when does it occur daily?

Registered User Posts: 73 10/10/07 12:58 PM	i have this too. in fact, it's what prompted my most recent visit to the ophthalmologist. it's in my left eye, too. if i stare straight ahead at the bathroom mirror, then move my head back and forth, with my gaze remaining fixed, i see this vertical grey shadow on the outer periphery that moves in the opposite direction of my head movement ... i can see it against any light-colored background. it's really annoying and scary but my retinas are fine ....

The spot swims in and out of my peripheral vision so quickly I don't have time to close my left eye and see if it is also in the visual field of the open right eye. I am only aware of it in the left eye. The "spot" looks just like the spot I see when I press on my closed eyelids. Sort of like a dark bubble with a blueish halo around it. It kind of glows. And it slides in and out of the left corner of my left eye very quickly maybe 10 times a day or so.

I mean pffft the worst thing about all this visual perception is the detachment from the reality and lonely feel. I just split with my long term girlfriend and it was a real kick in the gut. I've never felt so lonely, scared and lost in all my life. Sucks to be me. Could really do with a cuddle right now heh.

Registered User Posts: 206 10/12/07 9:53 AM	Remove this ad OHcrickets, I have exactly the same. I think it has to do with the blind spot just like someone else said. The second eye can filter that spot out, but if it's 'out of reach' of the second eye, than a black spot remains. Makes sense to me.
