And in reply to previous posts:
@Tanfies 2: I do exactly the same thing, in regards to sometimes deliberately trying to induce some of my more weird VS symptoms just so i can see wether they are getting any worse (this of course, makes it appear that they are getting much worse). Often if im particularly bored or concentrating on my VS more than usual I'll think something like 'hmm, i wonder if i could make that table leg disapear' and then focus on something behind it untill it fades out of my vision and immediately afterwards think 'now why the hell did i do that?' and spend the next few hours worrying wether my vision is getting worse. @Airelle: My school's planners were also ruthless in their application of fluorescent lights so i have the same problem. Made much worse by the fact that half of them are somewhere between just about working and completely dead and so flicker in an incredibly annoying manner. I also have chronic insomnia too, which also, doesn't help :P |

lol, yes, perhaps some kind of conspiracy is afoot. On the other hand, you are female, live in the south, your parents think your exagerating your condition,
your VS is much worse than mine and you get depersonalisation, so perhaps there is no conspiracy
I also doubt you suffer from my fantastic range of other medical conditions either, which total something like, ooh, *thinks* er - 12 - on top of which i've gone and got myself a f***ing cold - great
On a more VS related note, do you get Tinnitus? cos i do :/ |

Yes I get Tinnitus, although mine isn't ringing, it is a whoosing like the wind. Luckily it is not that bad.
Also like you I do suffer from a fantastic range of medical conditions. My family always jokes that I have inherited every problem that has ever existed in our family. I am honestly falling apart. Oh well I find it quite funny at times
So maybe it is a conspiracy afterall

Haha, yes, you gotta love the old 'failed at genetic lottery' jokes
Actually, though many of my conditions are indeed genetic, I never really had any major health problems untill about 11-months ago, when my state of health just suddenly exploded....and has continued to do so. I actually think that this is perhaps related to VS, as in the past when i have been reading these forums but before i was a member, i noticed that a fair number of people developed a number of conditions in a short time space shortly before their VS started. I was thinking something along the lines of stress+multiple prescription medicines=increased likelyhood of developing VS? My Tinnitus isnt that bad either, i thought it was just impacted wax till i learnt about VS - I get an occasional ringing sound and i have pretty bad hearing - especially in my left ear, theres no constant sound though. |

Luckily my conditions don't really impact upon my health, as the majority of them are bone, joint and cartilage related.
So what I lost the genetic lottery? I won the lottery of life what more could I
ask for hahaha

The cynical might say you could ask for a realistic diagnosis and to be taken seriously rather than treated as a hypochondriac, or perhaps not to have
contracted VS in the firstplace, but whatever - always look on the bright side

To be honest if I could ask for anything, stuff the diagnosis, I want the treatment! Actually take that back I wish I wasn't born with it in the first
place. Although it is quite amusing sometimes, for example I drew a picture of everything 'extra/strange' I saw in 10 minutes. I used up half the lead
in my pencil hahaha JOKE more like a quarter hahaha

I don't think i'd even be able to draw my visual disturbances - I have enough trouble just explaining them to people. On top of which, i'm a shit drawer

Ahhh well I am a terrible drawer too and I think it would be impossible to draw things how I see them, but I managed a fair representation. I think maybe it
seemed ok to me because I knew what the squiggles actually look like. I have also made a powerpoint of what I see when I try reading. It is a very good
example. I am going to try to make it into a film and post it on youtube

Hmm, I'd be interested in seeing that, admittedly largely out of crude interest in how other people experience VS, but also if you can create an accurate
representation of your symptoms that can be shown to medical types (i know i overuse that phrase, but its easier than listing them all) then it may be useful
both to yourself and others trying to explain what they're seeing and why it can be such a big problem

arg! I can barely even look at that for more than a few seconds without my eyes feeling terrible. How the hell do you cope!? Seriously - just see a neuro, your
opthalmologist was obvoiusly was off as your vision is quite clearly not "fine"
On a lighter note - good choice of text for your example lol!!

You should really show that to your doctor! I think that most of the battle with doctors is getting them to understand how truly disruptive this stuff is. Your
video is pretty undeniable.

Thanks for the support you guys
I will book an appointment to see my
GP soon, as soon as I have mustered up the courage to go haha I just am useless at demanding things, I want to see a neuro but I don't know how I should
request that.

Airelle, in your video you have an alternation of seeing the text with visual disturbances, and thereafter a sort of negative afterimage of the whole page
where the text is turned into white columns and the white background turned into black. How is this sequence achieved, are the 2 stages achieved by looking
away from the text to another point in space, or closing the exe, or else?

None of the above, it just happens when I am looking at one word. I will look at a word and try to read it, then the flashing starts without my eyes moving to
another spot or blinking. Then I move to the next word and the flashing continues. Is this common?
