Congrats on the clean EMG and NCV. I'm getting mine tomorrow and I'm a little nervous about it.

Doing reading on the subject, Fasciculations are incredibly common and can be caused by almost anything -- medicine and stress would probably be the two most likely factors, if you were changing a workout routine, that can do it as well.

NCV or NCS is sticking some leads on you then using a taser-like thing to send a mild electrical shock into your body to make the muscles contract. They check out the waveforms and then in my case, check the milliseconds between onset over the distance of your forearm. It's definitely fun, since you get the little CCHKT and then your muscles jerk without having done it yourself. He was getting an artifact from some kind of electrical interference that meant that he really had to crank up the amplitude and do it 3-4 times to make sure that the waveforms that we were getting weren't the artifact -- I didn't mind though.

The EMG is a needle that's stuck into a muscle and then it records your motor neurons firing when you flex the muscle. We did my pectoral and the muscle on your hand that pulls your thumb in and the neurologist made me stop even though I was finding the process pretty fascinating since the results were coming back well.

Well enough that he said he would "write it in stone" that I don't have ALS and probably more importantly (since the ALS fears were mostly coming from me scaring myself) that I haven't damaged my ulnar nerve, just irritated it, probably by leaning on hard armrests when I'm at a computer. Having them come back clean was quite a relief.
