Regular Visitor Posts: 145 03/29/08 10:05 PM	Remove this ad Today I was in my cousins car and he has a loud system. Not only is my tinitus worse but for some reason my vs is really bad more then I have ever noticed. Anyone elses vs ever get worse with loud music or noise?

Regular Visitor Posts: 145 03/29/08 10:19 PM	thanks for the link very interesting. I got real nervous when I got home and noticed how bad it was. My vs was never effected by noise just the tinitus its like the vs is loud as the tinitus if you know what I mean also im seeing more after images.

Regular Visitor Posts: 413 03/30/08 8:24 AM	I have had worse after images with loud music though the VS stayed the same. I try to avoid loud noises and music. I've had depersonalisation with loud noisy environments since getting VS, but I'm not sure if this is triggered directly by a physical response to the noise or is secondary to a psychological response or has something to do with the Topamax.

Regular Visitor Posts: 351 03/30/08 11:09 AM	Remove this ad I listen to loud music all the time (music is my life and its helped me get through some very rough times), i have to admit though too much of it and i get slight tinnitus, but its not constant so it doesnt bother me, suppose i really should stop though. Funny thing mentioned above, my VS does seem to go well with the beat.

Regular Visitor Posts: 397 03/30/08 8:41 PM	Be careful with loud music.....I was a radio DJ for 15 years or so and loved it, and was told from my first day on the air to expect to experience hearing loss from the equipment (in those days you had to turn the headphones up quite a bit to really hear and have best delivery on the air). I was 17 when I started in radio full time. The tinnitus I now experience is just amazing and nearly unbearable, in both ears, several strait tones and several pulsatile tones, and it's louder than a concert. I cannot hear rain, or birds or anything under 30 decibels. At the age of 47 I qualify for hearing aids in both ears. What I hear young adults playing in the cars has got to be 2 to 3 times the volume I was exposed to, and I assume Ipods are at least as loud as what I was exposed to. I'll bet the first thing they loose is hearing in the bass range from the sub-woofers--it's just going to mangle their cochlear hair cells in that range by shoving them and embedding them against the wall of the cochlea, and they'll get to hear those wonderful tones 24/7 for the rest of their lives. Really, be careful.

Its been a day and my vs and tinitus is still terrible hopefully it gos back to normal soon. Tonight I was looking into the sky and wow the vs drowned out most of the stars. The tinitus seems alot louder in my right ear hopefully they didnt get damaged from the radio.

I'm guilty of using headphones on the computer at high volumes for long periods (games, music) or using ipod at fairly high volume over the years but especially in the last few years, as a result i think i've done a little damage that has led to 24/7 tinnitus. Whether it's down to ear damage or related to VS i'll never know but i really think it's down to noise exposure. Prior to the tinnitus i had also been exposed to some very loud concerts which didn't help and infact i noticed tinnitus in my right ear after one concert in particular that was so loud i had to go get a set of ear plugs and to think we where near the back, seated. I felt sorry for the people at the front! One thing that bothers me is that i didn't know all these things could happen until they happened to me. My own fault for not educating myself i guess but i just wish that someone had made me aware of tinnitus and i would have lowered the volume or not used the headphones at all, as i do now but it's too late. You can be damn sure i'll be warning anyone i come across who i see making the same mistakes as me.
