I have been been seeing a fertility doc as i am finding it difficult to get pregnant, she has suggested i may want to try the fertility drug Clomid....... I think this is a massive no no, given its links with our problems. I wondered what anyone else thinks???? I already have bad palinopsia..... but would it make it worse (if it could !!) Donna

Regular Visitor Posts: 652 02/16/08 5:15 PM	hi donna this is really tough! sorry to hear your having problems. Did you have the laser surgery done on your eyes? (i may have the wrong person?!) Are you like me and only have palinopsia and not VS? I've not heard of Clomid so can't really comment too much on that, do they not have an alternative or is it just that group of drugs associated with fertility thats the problem? If it was me in your position and the only problem being the possiblilty of the palinopsia being worse short term i'd try it. but i guess only you can make that decision?! gem x Edit: can i ask how long you've had the Palinopsia and if its got worse since you first noticed it? I've had it now nearly a year and half, i don't think it has worsened much.

Regular Visitor Posts: 397 02/16/08 9:12 PM	I'd go on to rxlist.com and read about the risks and rate of side effects on the Clomid, then weigh it out--would you be willing to take that percentage risk of the side effect in order to have that chance....I'd bet a lot of people would. Do they fully understand yet why it's hard for you to conceive? What percentage chance do they give you if you use the Clomid? Is it a good increase? Would that be worth the risk? Best wishes for that pregnancy!

Before that I was a very healthy person and had no problems with my eyes what so ever. I started experiencing palinopsia about 5 years back. Now I have VS, floaters, after images and they are only getting worse? I am wondering if the PRK had anything to do with my problems. - Nina

Regular Visitor Posts: 164 02/17/08 3:52 PM	Females taking Clomid for fertility problems and males taking Clomid for body building have both suffered VS, palinopsia problems that seem irreversible. You have to make your own choices But I wouldn't touch the stuff with a 40 foot pole. The drug packaging, including Rx List, makes almost no notice of this serious problem. You can google to find more information.

Persistent visual distirbances are a rare side effect of Clomid, but they have been reported in a fes papers (see link above)

Regular Visitor Posts: 821 02/19/08 9:01 PM	I'm a VS lifer (plus a bunch of other visual symptoms) and Clomid did not do a thing to make my VS worse, or any other visual symptoms worse either. I came close to becoming homicidal while on it , but no visual symptoms. I had decided before taking it that I was not going to tell anyone at work about the treatments, but I became so ANGRY that I simply had to so everyone would leave me alone! For most people the shots are much easier on their moods, but for me they were the same... but still, no difference in visual symptoms. Best of luck with the treatments! Wendi

Pocanut i have had it nearly 8 years now, i take clonazepam (klonopin). its been my wonderdrug !!!! My neuro has said i can take clomid and i should seperate my fertility problems and palinopsia and treat them seperate. Im not sure yet what im gonna do. I am trying to make sure that any good news, no matter how minor, is permanently captured in that thread. How exactly does the Klonopin help you? Does it reduce the severity of your visual symptoms at all? How long did your visual snow / palinopsia go untreated before trying the Klonopin? Nearly 8 years? Regular Visitor Posts: 253 07/28/08 8:09 AM	Hi Starrant How i understand it is the Klonopin supresses part of my Central Nervous System which in turn reduces my palnopsia/snow symptoms. Dont get me wrong i still see stuff but not as intense as before. my neuro says that everyone sees what we see if they stare long enough or focus on it long enough ! He says my vision is hypersensitive. I take 2mg a day now. I have done for 3 years (at one point i took 3mg). xxx
