1. ArieruChan 2. arielmiron@hotmail.com 3. Ontario, Canada 4. 16 5. Female 6. Caucasian. Ancestors were German and Native American 7. Do you have classic migraine (migraine with aura) or common migraine (migraine without aura)? When did it begin? I've had migraine with aura for about 6 years now. The first time it happened I think I was in grade 4 in gym class. I started to see coloured dots and my periperal vision went hazy but I didnt get a headache. 8. What do you take for your classic or common migraine and does it help? Usually I take tylenol, advil or motrin, it helps with the pain. 9. Have you been diagnosed with persistent aura (prolonged migraine aura status)? No I have not. I just came across the disorder earlier today after I had some visual disturbances and some mild headaches and decided to look it up on the internet. 10.What is your visual problem and how long does it last? After doing things like watching tv, going on the computer or drawing I get scintillating scotoma and my peripheral vision becomes hazy. This usually lasts 10-20 minutes and leads to intense headaches, extreme sensitivity to light and extreme vertigo and nausea, I usually vomit from the nausea. Everytime I get the scotoma it always shows up in the same place and is always in a backwards C shape. It seems like the spot in my vision where the scotoma shows up is always flickering or is just messed up even when I dont have any scotomas, it's really hard to describe. Also I have visual snow in my whole field of vision, it is most noticible in a dimly lit room and looks alot like tv static or a haze that makes things difficult to see. I have many floaters and I see silver "trails", these are very noticible when I look up at the sky. I also see the "sparkles", rainbow ones after looking at light then looking away from it. My eyes are very sensitive to light, will get those rainbow dots on my eyes even after I havent looked at light. 11. Any other problems that you think might be related? I have spells of lightheadedness, nausea and vertigo that I think might be related. Also, there have been times when my whole body will partially go numb. It starts at my feet then moves up, then it starts in my hands and eventually engulfs my whole body. It usually takes a few days before I get all my feeling back. Also, i have frequent headrushes where my vision will cloud with a rainbow haze and I will see rainbow "sparkles". 12. What do you take or do for your vision problem and does it help? Usually when I start getting a scotoma I stop everthing im doing and lay in bed with all the lights off and try not to look at light. I find that if I feel the scotoma coming I can stop it by closing my eyes or taking a nap or doing somethign where I am not looking at light. But, once the scotoma has started, there is nothing I can do to get rid of it. 13. Have you found a trigger for your vision problem? Yes, it is almost always triggered by looking at the computer or tv and almost always when I draw on white paper. So, I guess it's triggered by light? but there have been times when its just happened out of nowhere. I find that if here is a scotoma coming my eyes will feel like they are drifting apart or a feeling like one of my eyes are lazy, its really weird. 14. What tests have you had and the results? None yet. 15. Drug history (pre VS) None. 16. Drug history (post VS - effect on VS - negative, positive, not at all) None. 17. Do you have a positive family history for migraine? If yes, who is affected? Not that I know of.

1. Name or screen name (optional): Hmeadq 2. Email (optional): 3. Location (optional): Ohio 4. Age: 33 5. Sex: F 6. Nationality and Race (optional): Caucasian, German - mainly 7. Do you have classic migraine (migraine with aura) or common migraine (migraine without aura)? When did it begin? Classic migraines, typically -90% of my headaches. When they started is hard, because I was young, but I remember laying in bed with a pillow over my head because of a headache when I was in early high school. I was 24 when I finally talked to a doctor and got Imitrex… 8. What do you take for your classic or common migraine and does it help? I took Imitrex for a long time until I started to feel like ants were crawling on my skin when I took it. Now I prefer Zomig. 9. Have you been diagnosed with persistent aura (prolonged migraine aura status)? No, I am being reffered to a nuerologist now. 10. What is your visual problem and how long does it last? My primary visual problem is a snow, like a static lightly over my field of vision, it can be very mild and occasionally seems to be absent, but it is more pronounced at night. I also get floaters in my vision and "shimmering" of solid colored surfaces. I also often see light flash at the corner of my sight. Once I lost sight in one eye for about 45 minutes, after many tests they decided it was either a TIA or an occular migrane, as I was only 28 and a history of the latter probably that. I have not had that sympton sense... 11. Any other problems that you think might be related? I think my dizziness is related to migranes. 12. What do you take or do for your vision problem and does it help? Nothing yet. 13. Have you found a trigger for your vision problem? Nothing yet. 14. What tests have you had and the results? None -yet. 15. Drug history (pre VS) - Illegal drugs, I assume you mean. Some marijuana in college- fewer then 10 times total. Legal drugs - All the normal ones including lots of antibiotics, heavy duty IV antibiotics, topomax (for migraine prevention), cardazim (for migraine prevention), imitrex, zomig, and immunotherapy for bee stings. 16. Drug history (post VS - effect on VS - negative, positive, not at all) - None so far. 17. Do you have a positive family history for migraine? If yes, who is affected? Yes, my mother, aunts, and sisters. 18. Other information you want to provide? I will update this when I have more information…

Nationality and Race (optional): British, White Caucasian 7. Do you have classic migraine (migraine with aura) or common migraine (migraine without aura)? When did it begin? No, I have never had a migraine. 8. What do you take for your classic or common migraine and does it help?
Nothing, See above. 9. Have you been diagnosed with persistent aura (prolonged migraine aura status)?
No. 10. What is your visual problem and how long does it last? I have continual, permanent visual snow, painful light sensitivity, afterimages that exist/last longer than usual (eg I look at plants on windowsill silhouetted against sky, look up and there are after images), a couple of small floaters, dark, almost 'pressure' spots when I look up, and a wrinkle effect when I look at the outer corner of my eyes. I have most recently been told this is probably due to allergies causing 'granules/bobbles' on the inside of my eyelids. 11. Any other problems that you think might be related? I have a lot of allergies and have had it suggested by someone diagnosed with allergic rhinitis that I might have a similar problem. There is certainly something wrong with the pressure around there because I can press with my fingertips underneath my eyes and at the corners both above and below and often come away with a 'squirty' sound, like if you pouch out your cheek and then push it hard to expel all the air. I also wore contact lenses at a teen when these problems started (albeit much at a much less noticeable/serious level) and I think this may have triggered the problem, the first time I had any problem with my eyes was at 14 on a French exchange trip and I had severe problems with bright light. I was diagnosed with blepharitis when the symptoms got profoundly worse after wearing eye make-up, but after that it was deemed to be cleared. The head consultant at the ophthalmology department checked my eyelids and diagnosed the 'bobbling' aforementioned. 12. What do you take or do for your vision problem and does it help?

1. Name or screen name (optional): Born2Soar 2. Email (optional): 3. Location (optional): Oregon, United States 4. Age: 50 5. Sex: M 6. Nationality and Race (optional): Caucasian 7. Do you have classic migraine (migraine with aura) or common migraine (migraine without aura)? When did it begin? When I was eighteen, I first started getting occular migraines; i.e., expanding area of flashing colored lights followed by a severe headache. I have had only two or three over my life. I have had other severe headaches, though, that were gone when I awoke the next morning. 8. What do you take for your classic or common migraine and does it help? Lay down and just try to go to sleep. 9. Have you been diagnosed with persistent aura (prolonged migraine aura status)? No. 10. What is your visual problem and how long does it last? I have chronic visual snow that would be similar to setting the 2nd simulation at 24%. I also have been diagnosed with pattern dystrophy of the retina. I noticed the graininess about seven years ago.
The graininess has gotten severe enough that it has affected my work. I work in a fast-paced number-crunching environment with a lot of computer work. Mistakes, such as not being able to distinguish between a "5 and an 8" or "ll or lll" on-screen or on-paper, are becoming costly. I can't take time to analyse the accuracy of every digit or character my mind "thinks" it's seeing. My errors are being credited to "sloppy" work. I know this isn't the case, as I recheck my numbers and letters constantly and will see the same character. It baffles me that sometimes I can come back 10 minutes later, reread my own work, and discover some serious errors that I never saw originally. I'm starting to resign myself to the fact that I'll probably have to start over with a different career. And, at my age, that won't be easy. I also have a hard time distinquishing details in rooms; i.e., not being able to recognize the faces of friends across a slightly darkened room, etc. I mentioned the graininess to my retina specialist and she just laughed and said, "Welcome to old age." I'm not convinced that that's the case as others tell me they don't experience it. Other symptoms include a lack of depth perception. I feel this is due to not being able to visually see shadows and color cues that help the mind to perceive depth. 11. Any other problems that you think might be related? About 10 years ago or so, I was diagnosed with depression. I took 5 - 10 mg of Paxil for about 10 years. As of about a year ago, I have weaned myself off of the medication. I also suffer from "dry eye" and have sinus issues (I would lose my voice about 3 times a year from drainage caused by sinus infections). 12. What do you take or do for your vision problem and does it help? I haven't been able to find a solution. 13. Have you found a trigger for your vision problem? No. It's chronic. 14. What tests have you had and the results? I see eye doctors about twice a year. They give me the impression that they consider it insignificant. To me, the loss of my employment IS significant. 15. Drug history (pre VS) I have not participated in any drug activity other than mentioned above. The only other medications/supplements that I take are decongestant/antihistimines for allergies (Loratidine), an occasional ibuprofen. About a year ago I started taking supplements of Omega oil tablets, ginko biloba and sometimes flaxseed oil. 16. Drug history (post VS - effect on VS - negative, positive, not at all) I have not found anything to affect the VS. 17. Do you have a positive family history for migraine? If yes, who is affected? My son and daughter suffer from migraines. 18. Other information you want to provide? Any information the doctors could provide would be greatly appreciated! I think this survey and any research/discoveries that it can provide is highly commendable. Thank you for doing it.
