I have gone to so many doctors and they just kind of shrug at me. I am so nervous about asking for a lyme test b/c of the reaction from the doc.

How did some of you ask for it? What was the docs response? Is it considered justifiable if you have joint pain...hives....vs....etc?

I've discovered there are two types of doctors out there... the ones who take their patients seriously, and the one's who don't. If your doctor shrugs at you when you tell him you think you may have a serious illness, then I think it would be time to find a new doctor. I've asked my doctor for some crazy tests, and he'll always give me his opinion, but if I want the test he will always authorize it, if for nothing else than my peace of mind. No doctor will put as much time and research into figuring out what's wrong with you than you will, and they should recognize that. If you really think you need the test, take some documents with you showing why. If he still brushes you off, then I'd look into finding a new physician.

My doc agreed to test me for lyme today.

First I'm going to take a normal blood test, and if that indicates somekind of abnormalties, i will take a second blood test from my back. This is random procedure where I live in Scandinavia.

Is this something common? Is this the best tests available for detecting lyme?
